FAQs


How do I place an order?
All OAK+CLAY pieces are made to order, so we handle each enquiry personally. To place an order, simply email or message us with the piece you’re interested in and any details you’d like to discuss. Once everything’s confirmed, we’ll send an invoice. We ask for a 50% deposit to secure your order, with the remaining balance due one week before delivery.


What are your lead times?
Our current lead time is usually 3–5 weeks, depending on the complexity of the piece and our workshop schedule. As each item is handcrafted, these timings can vary slightly — but we’ll always keep you updated and do our best to meet the agreed timeframe.


What payment methods do you accept?
We currently only accept payment by bank transfer. Full details are included on your invoice when you place an order.


Where do you deliver?
We deliver throughout the UK and mainland Europe, and calculate delivery individually based on size, weight, and destination. We also offer free local delivery within Yorkshire and free collection from our workshop.


Can I track my delivery?
We’ll arrange delivery directly with you and confirm a date and time in advance. For smaller items sent by courier, tracking details will be provided once dispatched.


What happens if my piece arrives damaged?
If your order arrives damaged, please photograph it and contact us within 48 hours. We’ll arrange repair, replacement, or refund depending on the situation.


Do you accept returns?
Because each item is made to order, we’re unable to accept returns unless the piece is damaged or faulty. If there’s ever an issue, please get in touch straight away and we’ll do everything we can to resolve it.


Can I see your pieces in person before ordering?
We don’t have a permanent showroom, but you’re welcome to visit our workshop (just outside York) by appointment. We can also share detailed photos or finish samples to help you make a decision before placing an order.


Do you offer samples or material swatches?
Yes — we can send small oak or tile samples on request so you can see the tone and texture in person before ordering. Please contact us to arrange this.


Can you make something bespoke?
Yes — we regularly create custom commissions. Many of our designs can be adapted in size, layout, or finish to suit your space. Just get in touch with your ideas, and we’ll discuss what’s possible and provide a quote.


Do handmade pieces have imperfections?
Every OAK+CLAY piece is made by hand from natural materials, so subtle variations in tone, grain, or finish are to be expected. These are not flaws — they’re what make each item one of a kind and full of character.


How do I care for my furniture?
Our oak is sealed but not heavily varnished or lacquered, to preserve its natural feel.
•    Wipe with a soft damp cloth, then dry immediately.
•    Avoid harsh cleaning products, silicone sprays, or abrasives.
•    Protect from prolonged moisture and direct heat.
With gentle care, your furniture will age beautifully and develop a rich patina over time.


What about the tiles and grout?
Our furniture combines handmade oak and hand-laid tiles. Over time or with temperature changes, fine hairline cracks may appear in the grout — this is completely normal. We include a small pot of matching grout with every piece so you can fill any minor cracks if needed.


Can I maintain the natural oak finish over time?
To keep your piece looking its best, you can apply a light coat of natural wood oil every few years if needed. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this can cause uneven fading.


Is your oak sustainably sourced?
Yes — all of our oak is sustainably and responsibly sourced from local suppliers in the UK. Every piece is designed and made by hand in our Yorkshire workshop, using honest materials and natural finishes wherever possible.


Do you offer trade accounts or collaborations?
We don’t currently offer trade accounts, but we love working with designers, stylists, and architects on collaborative projects. Please email us to discuss ideas or partnerships.
